How to become a SHPE-GSFV member
Membership Types
There are several membership types that SHPE offers that offer a variety of different benefits. The membership types include:
Recent Graduate
(FREE) For persons who qualify for regular membership and have graduated less than six (6) months ago.
You may qualify for a free complimentary membership if you are a graduating SHPE student member who has a paid active student membership within the past year.
If you have never been a SHPE member, or if your membership lapsed in the past year without renewing you will not qualify for the offer. In which case you will need to purchase a Professional Membership.
Graduate
($15.00) – Student membership is open to all engineering, math, physical, applied, and computer science majors. All others are invited to become associate members. Graduate students have the option to join SHPE either with a Student or Professional Chapter or Region At Large. If you choose not to be affiliated with a Student Chapter on your campus or a Professional Chapter in your area, you will be considered an “At-Large Member,” classified by your geographical region. Members “At-Large” receive the same benefits as those who belong to a chapter.
Professional
($65.00) – A Regular/Professional member shall be a person who at a minimum holds an engineer-in-training certificate or a bachelor’s degree in any discipline of engineering, engineering technology, mathematics, physical science or a mathematically based science field. Six years of experience as an engineer or in a mathematically based science field or engineering educator may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree. Regular/Professional members shall be entitled to cast one vote in elections of officers and all business that the Board of Directors refers to the membership. Regular/Professional members may hold a Board position.
Associate
($55.00) – An associate member shall be a person who believes and supports the purpose of this corporation. He/she shall not be entitled to nominate, vote nor hold a position in the Board. Associated members shall be extended all privileges of a Regular/Professional member less those exempted above.
Lifetime Associate
($800.00) – A Lifetime Associate member does not qualify for Lifetime Professional status but supports and encourages the members, purpose, and mission of SHPE. Membership dues for lifetime members will be waived in perpetuity.
Lifetime Professional
($1000.00) – A Lifetime Professional member shall be a person who at a minimum holds an engineer-in-training certificate or a bachelor’s degree in any discipline of engineering, engineering technology, mathematics, physical science or a mathematically based science or technical field. Six years of experience as an engineer or in a mathematically based science or technical field or engineering educator may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree. Membership dues for lifetime members will be waived in perpetuity.
SWE Joint Membership
($130 for new applicants / $110 for renewal) – Joint membership with SWE further promotes an inclusive environment with SHPE and SWE. The goals of this important partnership program are to improve networking opportunities and expand professional development programs for Hispanic women engineers. This is a discounted rate available for those who wish to join both organizations. For more information please visit the SWE Membership website.

Are you a graduating Senior?
If so you may qualify for a free first year professional membership. You may qualify for a free complimentary membership if you are a graduating SHPE student member who has a paid active student membership within the past year.
If you have never been a SHPE member, or if your membership lapsed in the past year without renewing you will not qualify for the offer. In which case you will need to purchase a Professional Membership.
How to purchase your membership
In this section we will walk you through how to purchase your membership through SHPE Connect. If you have already purchased a membership in the past you can go to SHPE Connect directly by using the following button.
Step 1 - Create a SHPE Connect Account
Go to www.shpeconnect.org and select "Create an Account"


Step 2 - Login to Your SHPE Connect Account
After you have created an account you can login to SHPE Connect

Step 3 - Pick a Membership Package
Select "Join/Renew Membership" from the navigation menu

Next select the membership package and chapter region that you want to purchase

Select Greater San Fernando Valley from chapter list

Afterwards click continue and go forward with the registration process and payment and then you're all set!
Renew Your Membership
Step 1 - Login to SHPE Connect
Login to your SHPE Connect account
Step 2 - Check Membership Expiration Date
You can check the membership expiration date on your profile page. It is stated below the “My Profile” heading as well as the “My Memberships” page by following My Account -> My Memberships. If your membership hasn’t expired then you are set. If your membership is expired please continue on to step 3

Step 3 - Pick a Membership Package
Select "Join/Renew Membership" from the navigation menu

Next select the membership package and chapter region that you want to purchase

Recent Graduates please follow Steps 3A - 3B. If you are not a recent graduate you may skip these steps
- Step 3A – Select the Recent Graduate Membership package
- Make sure you select the “Recent Graduate” membership. To receive your free membership as a recent graduate, you must have graduated within the last 6 months.
- Step 3B – Upload your Transcript
- Upload your unofficial transcript showing your degree completion
Step 4 - Join SHPE Greater San Fernando Valley
Select Greater San Fernando Valley from chapter list

Afterwards click continue and go forward with the registration process and payment and then you're all set!
