March 2015 General Body Meeting

March 2015 Speakers

March is National Women’s History Month. Every year the National Women’s History Project selects a unifying theme to be shared with all who want to promote women’s history.

This year’s theme presents the opportunity to weave women’s stories – individually and collectively – into the essential fabric of our nation’s history. Accounts of the lives of individual women are critically important because they reveal exceptionally strong role models who share a more expansive vision of what a woman can do. The stories of women’s lives, and the choices they made, encourage girls and young women to think larger and bolder, and give boys and men a fuller understanding of the female experience. Knowing women’s achievements challenges stereotypes and upends social assumptions about who women are and what women can accomplish today.

To celebrate that, we’ll be presenting two very successful Latinas and long time SHPE members, Diana Gomez & Martha Garcia.

Diana Gomez

Diana is the Central Valley Regional Director for the California High-Speed Rail Authority and has close to 25 years of experience in California transportation garnering wide experience in technical, managerial and communication areas. Most recently she was the Deputy Director of Operations for Caltrans District 7, which covers Los Angeles and Ventura Counties in Southern California.

During her tenure at Caltrans, Diana was also Chief of the Office of System Management Operations, Headquarters Division of Traffic Operations and a Senior Traffic Engineer with the Division of Traffic Operations for Caltrans District 6, headquartered in Fresno.

At Caltrans, Diana was involved in the implementation of QuickMap, which displays statewide traffic information, TMCal statewide software tool to track all activities associated with responding to incidents, and the consolidation of permit offices and reorganization of the Division of Traffic Operations in Los Angeles.

Martha Garcia

Martha is an Engineering Services Manager for Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas). She has worked in the energy industry for the past 24 years since she graduated from CSUN.

Martha has held various positions within SoCalGas including Account Executive Supervisor, Training Supervisor and Intern Supervisor and many others. She obtained her Engineering degree from Cal State Northridge and her MBA from University of Laverne.

While at CSUN, Martha was very involved with SHPE and participated extensively in the planning of the Young Latina Forum. She has been volunteering with Comision Femenil de San Fernando Valley since 1999 and has held many positions including Co-President, and Co-Treasurer.
